More About Me
I play a number of old time banjo styles. These include clawhammer, "Seeger style" up picking, thumb lead, index lead, 3 finger, and individual styles such as Dock Boggs' 3 finger style. I enjoy taking a song/tune from one source and adapting a different banjo style, thereby coming up with something unique and original! I also like to come up with arrangements based on early southern banjo and guitar recordings.
Before moving to Southern Maryland, I spent 4 years on the faculty of Salisbury University's music department, where I taught courses in ear training/sightsinging, music theory, world music, American folk music, music appreciation, and applied classical guitar and wrote program notes for the Salisbury Symphony Orchestra.
I have a Bachelor Degree in Classical Guitar, minor in piano from the conservatory at Shenandoah University, where I also studied the Renaissance lute. My graduate studies are in ethnomusicology and historical musicology. I teach in person in the Southern Maryland area and via FaceTime.
