Lesson Content
The content of the lessons are tailored to the individual depending on their age, interests and goals.
For younger students or beginners who are unsure about their motives for learning their instrument I like to introduce both music notation and tablature right from the get go.
I cover basic songs, correct instrument technique and various genres. Once they have learnt the fundamentals of their instrument and have had a taste of the different ways forward the student normally has a good idea of where they want to go next.
For people who just want to learn how to play their favorite songs and prefer a more casual approach then a typical lesson would involve looking at which songs they are interested in which are within their skill level then downloading the chords/tablature and sitting down and tackling the song together.
For more advanced players lessons may involve in-depth music theory, compositional techniques, improvisation and all the tech-nerd stuff that goes into recording your own music, such as mixing, mastering, microphones and various studio techniques.
(Audio portfolio’s are provided for any student or parent upon request).
BIO
I'm Brad Kerr, the instructor and owner of Basement Music Tuition. I was born and raised in Auckland, New Zealand before moving permanently to Lexington Kentucky. I have been playing and learning guitar since the age of twelve. While growing up I was involved in my high school jazz big band, jazz combo, orchestra and an originals blues rock band organized outside of school. After high school I completed a twelve month course in contemporary music theory and performance. The following year I worked full time for a music franchise where I taught guitar and bass at five local elementary and middle schools in Auckland. In the next two years I completed an associates degree in audio engineering and music production. In 2015 I was granted a temporary work visa for the USA, I travelled to New Hampshire and taught guitar at an all boys summer camp. After the expiry of my visa I returned to New Zealand and started up my own music tuition business where I offered lessons in Acoustic Guitar, Electric Guitar, Bass, Banjo and Ukelele to anybody aged seven or above. I continued running my music tuition business and teaching guitar at a local middle school until November 2018 when I received a permanent visa for the USA. Having just arrived I plan to continue providing music tuition in my new home, Lexington Ky.
Location
As a traveling tutor, I offer lessons in the comfort of your own home, to anybody within Lexington KY. My private home studio lessons based in Idle Hour will also become available in early 2019.
