More About Me

Biography:
Born in Meridian, MS. Started playing banjo at age 12 studying from his brother Bruce Thrailkill and Carl Jackson. Buck grew up playing all over the south touring on the Magnolia State Bluegrass Circuit at age 15 with childhood friend and music partner Guitarist James Beau Edwards. Buck plays the famous ‘Earl Scruggs’ style of 3 finger picking with some newgrass style licks and songs. Growing up, he played and taught regularly till 1981 when he joined the Army. So pickin took a back seat to life for a few years till he retired here in Fayetteville in Sept 1997. He has been playing and recording in various venues in North Carolina and surrounding areas for a many years now with several different bands and instrumental configurations ranging from Country to Honky Tonk to Blues and Hardcore Bluegrass. Currently he is the the Owner of Fifth String Studio, the co-Owner of Rebel Roots Studios, and full time partner and banjoist with JB Beverley.

About My Studio:
Fifth String Studio is the home based teaching studio for Banjoist Buck Thrailkill, for intermediate and advanced banjo students. ‘Some things jus’ gotta be handed down face to face with diligence, patience, and the love of music.'

Mission:
To give any and every music lover with the desire to play banjo the skills and training necessary to become a Banjo Player and not just someone who plays banjo...

Description:
Fifth String is a place of study for advancing bluegrass banjo players. The location, atmosphere, and training outline are all designed to work together to provide the highest resolution and clarity in training and practical exercise. To allow the student to field their own path forward by recognizing and strengthen the weak areas and explore the fundamentals of expanding their strong areas.

General Information
All beginner to intermediate lessons will be taught at Fifth String Studio. There is a good choice of beginner banjo's we can discuss if needed, all of which I set up and check on site, with all supporting materials needed for banjo owners. I also offer Online Lessons, at all levels, via SKYPE (buckt13) for folks that are not in the area as well. I have a payment system set up through PayPal (buckt13@aol.com) as an option for all lessons, or students can pay as they go depending on the amount of lessons they choose.
