More About Me

I learned to play the banjo in 1973 by listening to Earl Scruggs (Foggy Mountain Banjo album) and studying his book. I also enjoyed the style of Larry McNeeley. Living in Texas, I frequented the bluegrass festivals in the area which included Bill Grant's festival at Salt Creek Park in Hugo OK, Canton and Glen Rose TX. In 1976 I won the Banjo Championship at the First Annual Bluegrass Festival, East Texas State University, Commerce, TX. In 1979 I was Banjo Champion at Bill Grant's festival in Hugo, OK. Since those days, I have performed at venues all around the northeast Texas and Dallas areas, including southern Oklahoma. I have been a member of the Bois d'Arc Bottom Band since 1976 and was a member of Robert Joe Vandygriff's band, "Shades of Country" for ten years (banjo and pedal steel guitar). Also performing with the "Hard2Git Bluegrass Band" in Paris Texas for four years. I currently perform in the Northeast Texas area with several artist including Wade White, Michael Grigsby, RJ Vandygriff, Joan Kelton, and Lou Ann Petty. My music studio in Paris "Stringbender Music" is equipped for teaching banjo, as well as dobro, lap steel, bass, guitar and pedal steel.

There has been very little banjo interest in the Paris Texas area recently. - BanjoBoydHudgens

I have one teenager currently learning 5-String banjo. I have discovered that he is learning more from the tunes I have created over the years. - BanjoBoydHudgens
