More About Me
Hi/G'day etc (see also http://www.musicteacher.com.au/john-taylor/)
General Details
Bluegrass banjophonist since age 17 – And in the last 35 years I have played (and continue to play) in a large number of established bands, as well as appearing on a number of bluegrass, country and folk recordings.
Currently with Paverty Bush Band www.paverty.com.au
Contributing author “The Fifth String” (an article dedicated to the 5 string banjo) in Trad and Now Magazine 2003-2009.
Pretty well known on the festival circuit as someone who will jam all night and damn the consequences.
My style is firmly and defiantly traditional – preferring Bill Monroe and the Bluegrass Boys to any other band, anytime.
I also play bluegrass guitar and double bass and have a hell of a lot of fun footling around with the mandolin as they are nifty little contraptions.

Bluegrass banjo is not as hard as it looks! I will take you through the standard picking patterns, rolls and licks, playing lead breaks, backup and basic bandpersonship. You will learn how to read tablature and play by ear and feel. We’ll look at the popular bluegrass banjo styles and have you picking along in no time (provided that you practice!).
On the way I’ll show you basic banjo maintenance and set up and other little things that the books don’t tell you. I can also assist with advice on banjo purchase and at your first lesson, if required, set up your banjo for optimum tone – while you get to play one of mine.
