I love this OT country rag. Nice version and variations here. It's also known as 'Pig Ankle Rag' (in D). There is a neat version by Bob Potts and Walt Koken with The Highwoods String Band.

You know, after listening to the Cannon version, I really like your interpretation and great groove. Beautiful. It's not the same as Cannon's 'Pig Ankle Strut' but the chords and contours are close.

Cannon's Jug Stompers recorded the Pig Ankle two tracks earlier on Sept 5 28 mostly as a Harmonica Solo for Noah Lewis with Cannon's banjo and Avery's guitar or guitar banjo being mainly accompaniment for Lewis's harp. This recording which I think was September 90 which I think you are right is the same tune, is remarkable in that the lead exchanges between Cannon's five string banjo, Avery's six string guitar banjo, and Lewis's Harp in a unique way. They seem to be getting into a real groove as a band on this recording rather than just backing up lead playing by Noah Lewis. Ashley Thompson had been the guitarist before this session and he and Cannon and Lewis had played together on and off for about 20 years since Lewis and Thompson were teenagers. Cannon had switched to an old medicine show band mate Avery who played killer chord rhythm on guitar and six-string guitar banjo for this session because he think Thompson provided enough bottom rhythm, though I think it was more Cannon being more comfortable with a player closer to his age with more of a medicine show country ragtime background like Avery than a young blueshawk like Thompson
