I have been enjoying listening to all your music. I first heard "the Great Speckled Bird" on a cheap Woolworth's $.99 recording of the Early Monroe Brothers. It was one fine record on an off lable which was purchased in 1965. It had the "Bringing in the Georgia Mail", and I think "Mother's not dead, she's only a-sleeping" as well. Not only do I enjoy your music today, but the memories that it brings back! Thanks

As did Lorna, I also found that Monroe Brothers LP in a bargain bin. I also remember Great Speckled Bird, and many of the other songs on it.
Congrats to Rick, on a clean and simple rendition. It's meaningful to point out the melody, as the source for many other "standards".

This little tune reminds me of my mis-spent youth and my first love.. Like Cheating Heart it is a tune that I would love to master.
I can play a down the neck improvised version but would love to take an up the neck break. But my skill level beyond the 10th fret needs a lot of work. I love the pinches it works well with the second half of the song.
Regards Tam
