This performance was recorded at the Galax Fiddlers Convention in 1964. Pegram calls the tune 'The Old Fox Chase' here, but also called it 'Old Rattler' on other recordings. For those of you who never saw George, you really can't appreciate the overall visual effect of George howling at the moon with his banjo sticking straight up in the air. It was nothing short of spell binding. In this outing, the microphone stand kept slipping down and George went right down with it...winding up nearly lying on the stage..oh how I wish someone had filmed it!

Great music Ken, thanks for sharing it. The last time Will Keys played at the Tennessee Homecoming in Norris, his mike stand did the same thing. He just took it in stride and stooped lower and lower. Another great picker.

Great picking. I gather from reading various BHO comments that this style is not politically correct these days. But give me that testosterone-laden old time banjo playing every time.

Pegram was a mad man with the banjo. His 'John Henry' is awesome.

Awesome! Pegram is one of my favorite 3 finger players.
