Dear Joe,
I've been playing for a while now and am thinking of getting my first good banjo. I love the tone of your banjo (s?) on the Sally Ann and Five Miles From Town takes you have on here with the Tar Heel Hot Shots. What is the banjo you're playing and can you tell me a bit about what's giving you that tone (tone ring, head, etc)? My emails is rcaswell2@gmail.com if that's easier! Thanks a bunch! Great music!
Rob

Hi Rob,
Glad you like the cuts with the Hot Shots, it was one of my favorite bands. I recorded on my old Bob Momich banjo (which actually was a Wildwood pot with their standard brass tone ring, plus a hand-built neck.) I had about a 10 year old Fiberskyn head on it when we recorded those tracks.
Kevin Enoch built a banjo for me in 1997, and it has been my main banjo ever since. Kevin is making some pretty darned good banjos in his Tradesman line... very affordable, but great sounding. Mike Ramsey has moved his Chanterelle shops down here to North Carolina. He also does a fine job.
All best,
Joe

Love it! Wish I knew the words that describe the way that title fits the tune, especially that one high note in the A part. Somebody must be excited to either be leaving town or coming back again.
