I was listening to a clip of this at Jason's site from Dirk Powell. I played around with it for couple of hours and got this. The tuning is G#EG#BE which is a new one for me but it's very common. It's an open D tuning called Dead Mans tuning. I'm playing it tuned up a step. I'm playing a Romero chechen fretless with a 13 inch rim. The pot is deep 3.5 inches. This one has a skin head.

Nice job - I love that fretless sound.  Your fretless banjo is one of the nicest sounding I've heard.

Thanks! It was the first all wood 13 inch rim with an integral tone ring he built and the neck is very beefy.  It's very plunky with that deep rim.  I ordered it with nylon string Savarez yellow cards but I like it better with steel.

Just listening to some Sandy Boys-s; love your version - very mellowly funky. Thanks!
