What is Soldiers Joy? I first was told that it is LIBERTY. You know. A soldiers vacation. 3 day pass. R&R. Another story I heard lead to this version of Soldiers Joy that I have recorded. The story goes that Civil War Soldiers were getting strung out on Morphine. Soldiers went to such lengths as inflicting injuries on themselves to get more morphine. The happy bouncy part of the music is how I picture a soldier would feel under the influence of the morphine but then look for the suprise ending put in to depict how it might have been when the soldier came to his senses and saw what was around him. Hope you like it.

I, too have heard this traced back to the civil war and morphine. I really like how you framed the song and I will be looping this to steal some of your variations. Nice work.

Awesome job- 5 stars. About the morphine in your story: Im a chronic pain patient that is prescribed morphine in pill form. Let me tell you, it does not get me high in any way. I guess back in the civil war they were using larger amounts and shooting it straight into the veins, because when taken in pill form I cant see anybody wanting to hurt them selves for more of the drug.
I LOVED the song. - Terry
