I don’t know.
I just did a quick google search and found some lyrics from a book called The Unchained: Powerful Life Stories of Former Slaves. Here is a snippet from a childhood song in a section titled An interview with Annie Bridges age 81, Farmington, Missouri
Rain, rain, rain all around
Ain’t goin’ rain no more
And what did the blackbird say to the crow?
You bring rain, and I’ll bring snow
A lot of songs in old traditional repertoires had floating lyrics, so it’s hard to say the exact connection between the song and the tune, but there is likely a connection somewhere.
