Clyde Davenport, Kentucky fiddler and banjo player from Kentucky, still must be alive today, in his 90's because I can't find anything otherwise. There's a youtube of him playing at his birthday concert at 91 years old six years ago. I think the tune he plays like this one are enchanting and engaging.

Yes, Yigal, thanks so much. I understand that Mr. Davenport learned lots of tunes and couldn't remember where. Nor could he remember their titles, I guess! It's good to have learned this tune then, finally. Marcus Martin (b. 1881) recorded this in the 40's. It must be an old tune from elsewhere.

Under what name did Marcus Martin recorded the tune?

I read it in a post for the tune of the week on August 23, 2008. Marcus Martin is credited for the tune with the title as you identified it. banjohangout.org/archive/125024

Thanks. The 30 seconds long clip of Marcus Martin's playing Shove... from The Digital Library Of Appalachia is already saved on my computer.

Thanks for bringing Flatwoods to my attention. I plan to work on Tommy Jarrell's version
