Genre: Old Time / Playing Style: Clawhammer and Old-Time
From the playing of Virginian fiddler C.B. Wohlford in 1938, this old-time Tune of the Week was recently recorded by Bruce Molsky, a favorite fiddler and banjo player of mine. My arrangement is based on the older source recording.

It was so much fun to hear you play this. I love it when my ear catches something new!

Thanks for listening hard, Cyndy! At first I thought the B part was crooked, but it's not. This piece could be studied in a clawhammer course because it has so much going on and uses a mode common in Celtic pieces. I put it on a slow-downer and listened to the details, as well as tried to get a feeling for Wohlford's structure, which seems to be inconsistent, as if he were playing just informally. He was about 53 when he played this. It's a neat tune all right -- simple, yet with complexities.
