Thanks - I think my new banjo is mostly responsible but my playing is slowly getting better.

The banjo is structurally the same as a Bacon Concert Grand (Bacon TR atop a White Laydie scalloped ring) but I first assembled the pot with a head stretched to tension then spent some time tapping on it to identify where the bridge should be located on the head and then the neck was made to locate the bridge on that spot. Once assembled, I spent some time playing it with different length temporary interior tubes to determine the best sounding cavity response and then made a permanent one to replace it at that length. I think it's my best banjo so far but I have plans to try a Silver Bell TR in place of the Bacon TR.
