Hey - you're getting there! Sounds like Cripple Creek to me. You are too far along for them to stay a mystery. :-)

Is Skype an option? If not, and you have no local option, then talk about what's limiting you. Most folks here have a sincere desire to help.

:) thank you, I am attending Helen "HonestCelt's" Banjo Jam locally. She and I both had the same tutor that has stopped for the time being to concentrate on his gigging etc. SO we are both sort of "left out" so Helen decided to start this WBJ site on facebook and it's the third meeting (an I am going to lurk) as I don't think my two songs I know are enough to "Jam" with others

Can you learn to read tab? It's not that hard. There are a lot of people on the BHO who will tell you to "learn by ear" which is fine if you have an ear, but that usually means previous musical training. Nothing wrong with tab to get started. I can play by ear, but I've had some classical piano, as well as many years fooling around on guitar, and I can also read standard notation. I'm about four months in on the banjo and I've found that you can get the gist of a new song by reading the tab, either in an instruction book, or here in the tab archives. Once you have the thing down, it's easy to start modifying the tune.

hiya and yes, I learn almost strickly by tabs, I found a few sites that also offer midi files so I can hear what I'm supposed to be sounding like, yet some of the measures are different and if you know the song it helps, yet the tab versions of the songs are much more simplified thatn those that I listen to, so the music seems different?
I'm persevering on and will probably join one of the banjo lesson groups on the web such as Rick McKeon or Ryan Crist. Thanks for the help mate :)
