This version of Sugar Hill comes from the fiddling of Grayson County, Virginia fiddler, Emmett Lundy, born in 1864. Adam Hurt's Skype lessons provided the vehicle by which I've been encouraged to listen to, learn, and attempt my own arrangement of Mr. Lundy's tunes. I'm playing on a Gold Tone cello banjo.

Another beauty; Doesn't Emmet Lundy play the tune in D?

Thanks Chad and Yigal. Emmett Lundy plays it in C#, which was probably meant to be D. He was recorded by the Lomax's for the Library of Congress, so who knows what their recording devices could have done to perhaps change the pitch. I play it in E because of the tuning of my cello banjo at the present time. The banjo is still in what I consider to be double C tuning, but is tuned down several steps.
