For the TOTW, 12/13/13, this is an original by Chuck Levy named for a disastrous diesel oil fire upon an actual river in Ohio. I'm playing cello banjo with Chuck's video and hope the recording quality is bearable.

I'm not well versed in musical terminology, but if what you did is counterpoint, you did it quite well.

Thanks, Lew and Rick. It seems to be a combination of harmony and counterpoint. I was exploring the tune with notes that were in his modal scale. The end result seems to impart a more frantic tone that goes with the theme of terrible flames upon a river. The historical description of the event is worth reading in the TOTW: banjohangout.org/topic/275873
