Shady Grove Take 1, Nov 25, 2012. I didn't use any metronome or backing tracks for this..... for some reason it sounds like should be riding my horse across the ranch!

LOL!!! I think the same thing when I play. I hear that from a lot of Claw Hammer players so you must be on the right track. It does sound as if all of the notes are the same distance apart. The down beat seems to be the only regular interval and the rest of the notes are in piles and clumps between the down beat. Can't squawk for a someone playing only four months. I still can't keep time after three years and you seem to have it figured out.

Oh, I don't mean how your tune sounded. I mean how music works. I am a beginner, too.
Cool bike, BTW.

Oh, OK...... Thanks. I have a Geoff Hohwald book that helps me get the rhythm or I would never know how to pick the notes in the right time. I downloaded the CD's included with the book to my iPod and it has some really slow (like 50 bpm) play along practice sessions and I use that to get the tune in my head.

The Hohwald book is a good one ,,great teacher .I think you sound "VERY" good ..Timing is fine ,,you can tell you have worked on it .Melody is all there ,we can tell what you are playing ..You are just a short distance from playing these songs at full speed .. Dont rush ,,you are doing great .

Thanks Edward, I have been pushing hard..... I told my teacher today that the only thing I'm not happy about is my speed but I know it will eventually come.

i know how you feel ,but a year from now you will look back and not believe your progress (speed)..You say you are pushing hard ,well dont push to the point of taking the fun out and making it a job.. Believe us when we tell you ,,you are just fine and on target .Keep posting at least once a month ,you may not hear the difference ,but we will LOL

I'm using Geoff Hohwald's Banjo Primer also. Your Shady Grove sounds good. I just can't seem to get the timing right yet. Your doing great.

Thanks Pickn5. I need to go back to this song and try it again. I recorded it about a year ago right about the time I found a teacher and I don't think I've tried it since then. I need to pull Geoff's books back out.....I bought several books and like his style and his tab.
