Learning to play the cello banjo is an interesting challenge. It does remind me of playing the cello a long time ago, but with no bow. We called that "pizzacato."

Nice one. Is the tuning on that thing just an octave lower or is it a different tuning?

Mine is tuned an octave below, so I can play songs I know already. There are some considerations, such as wound strings and accompanying squeaky noises. But the plucked resonance is lovely.
