This song is so pretty it's hard to imagine it's about a quarrel, but I think the landlady didn't want him to keep drinking her supply of ale, so he argues about it. At least that's what the biographic sources say.

Thanks, Sid. It's nice to hear from you clear around the world. There's a lot of reading one could do about Turlough O'Carolan to surmise what was on his mind when he wrote this song. It may have just been for a cup of good cheer.

Dont know this history on all "these" tunes you post Janet but your playing in this genre/motif is excellent! Your passion for them shows in your playing for sure!

Thanks John. Any encouragement coming from you is special (pronounce that as spatial). By hearing these tunes and then arranging them, with access to the musical notation, I guess I'm trying to get a little of O'Carolan to seep into my subconsciousness. It's related to the Chieftains' musical feel--the kind of music you want to listen to again and again and maybe get up and clog for exercise. It's something like listening to a lot of Bill Monroe and Earl Scruggs and and Ralph Stanley and Bob Flesher and Art Stamper and John Hartford and Jim Reed. What music!! When I only have single notes to learn from I take a single melody note and work it into a chord or partial chord (which you are able to label so easily just by listening). The sound of it seeps in. It's letting me synthesize all the picking styles I've studied, which I gather is what should happen. It's a passion for good music, like you say.

I don't see any quarrel here. What's not to like? Great arrangement and super sweet picking.

Carolan was said to have cursed her at her gravesite. Oh well. Well played.
