This is tune always played in D, but I'm doing it in G just to see if it's possible. It's possible, but it needs a lot of work. This recording is after about 30 minutes of figuring it out and practicing it. If I remember to play it, I might be able to smooth it out eventually. The good news is that it's a lot easier to play (at least for me). The bad news is that I'll never find a fiddler who plays it in G.
