Andrew Jackson, Davey Crocket, Sam Houston and their Cherokee allies wiped out most of the Creek Nation's warriors leaving the Creeks unable to resist European incursions. The cherokee thought they'd earned the respect and friendship of Jackson et al. The Trail of Tears was THEIR reward.

I made an error by including Davey (David) Crocket in the cast of villians at the Horseshoe Bend fight. Not only was he not there (he did participate in the Creek (redsticks) wars) he became an ardent critic of Andrew Jackson and voted against the removal of native Americans from the Southeast

Well-played tune with an interesting history. There's a song called Horseshoe Bend which must be in the same locale, but it's not like this song. Yours sounds modal and reflects the dismal sentiment you write about.

It was a dismal event, "justified" by the fact that 'we' were at war with the Red Stick Creeks but of course they were only defending themselves against the encroachment of our expansion West.

I need to amend the blog. Davey Crocket wasn't present at the battle and later on became a political enemy of Jackson's, specifically regarding the forced removal of the Cherokee people, one-time allies of the US in the Red Stick battles.
