Why the padding..? For effect or in house sound muffling as to not offend neighbours..? I play an open back Gold Tone bare finger and find I'm a little too quiet for playing with others. You shouldn't have that problem though playing Clawhammer style.

i liked the sound of the padding, but would take it out for playing with others. thanks for all your nice comments

It does sound good I must admit.
I know most Clawhammer players at an open mic evening I attended last year had a rolled up towel between the torsion bars and head all the time, they still had enough volume, but with a lovely mellow tone.
