I don't know much about old time music, but I liked that tune and your playing a lot.

Thanks! The first time I heard this tune was Norman Blake's version flat picked on the guitar (and boy does he pick it pretty!). His version is called "Jordan Am a Hard Road to Travel" and it's on YouTube.

This is a great old tune first discovered by me in Miles Krassen's book "Clawhammer Banjo" published in 1974.

I just noticed the introduction to this section and it too mentions Krassen's book. Sorry to duplicate the info - now I've somehow managed to triplicated it! I'll give up.

Have never tried this one out of "Clawhammer Banjo" (no telling how I missed it for ~30 yrs :-). Diverging from banjo, but: anyone interested in having a go at Norman Blake's outstanding flatpicking version mentioned above, see flatpickerhangout.com/myhangou...p?id=6989 for a recently-posted Carter Style tutorial that features Blake's version of "Jordon Am a Hard Road to Travel" (there is a link to the YouTube version, which also includes his wife Nancy playing backup). Thanks again for posting all these fine old tunes out of "Clawhammer Banjo"! PS The picker on the flatpicking tutorial is only 12 years old; watch out Winfield National Flatpicking Championships in a few years ...
