Hey thanks, Bob. My brothers worship the Country Gentlemen, especially the Emerson era. My brother is playing a hybrid banjo there (in fact it's the banjo he started teaching me with). Years ago, he took an old tenor banjo and had a 5-string neck put on it. I never much liked the sound of it, but it records pretty good.

My brother told me that actually it was Cliff Waldren that recorded this song (though Emerson was playing with him at the time

Hi:
Cool--thank you for the background. I never knew it was recorded by a major BG band!

By the way, I think my bro says that was a Tubaphone banjo he is playing there?

Just listened to EMR again--very mellow. Cannot tel banjo type--makes less difference on a folky tune???
I am 63, so Early Morning Rain was an old folky thing in the day. Written, I think, by John Denver--a hero of mine.
bye

Actually, I think it was a Gordon Lightfoot song, according to wikipedia. Anyhoo, my brother normally plays a Gibson Mastertone, which has a very different sound. I personally like a more blunt sounding banjo. Anyway, thanks again for the comments, and stay tuned for more of our basement jams...
