This hornpipe is usually paired with "Kitty's Wedding" because of the classic Noel Hill & Tony Linnane recording from the 70's.
We play these two regularly in our Irish session, and an oldtime fiddler (John Hoffmann) who stopped by, told me that Kitty's Wedding was the same as "Briarpicker Brown".

Mark: Yep. I learned the tune from the Noel Hill & Tony Linnane LP. However, "Kitty's Wedding" never knocked me out like the "Home Ruler" does, so I haven't learned it yet. I like the fact that the "Home Ruler" is interpreted as the ruler of a household, or the ruler of Ireland.
