I heard Sam Bush and David Grisman play this as a mandolin duet (no vocals) and it was so beautiful it makes you want to cry just to realize the feeling they are able to put in to their music. Before the song started Sam and David were talking about the first time Sam had heard this song. He says it was in 1965 at the Roanoke Bluegrass festival in Thincastle Virgina. It was sung by Bill Monroe and Peter Rowan. Sam said "it just knocked me over" Then David asked Sam how old he was at that time. 13 said Sam. Well.....every version I've heard from David and Sam's to Emmy Lou Harris and most everyone else had sent a shiver through my spine. Now I'm no great singer but we are giving it a try here. Just wanted to share a great song with you.
