Really, I just sprinkle some in the palm of my hand to absorb moisture/sweat before playing. Doesn't seem to hurt the finish.

Oh... I thought you applied it to the neck to remove any sticky residue that might have been left by your hands. Does it leave any thing on the fretboard?
