The idea is: After the head is tacked in place, run the block and string through the dowel hole, put glue on the top of the perch and slide the neck in place. Then pull the strings to tug the block into place. Once the glue dries, pull the string out. And the block should provide a little more reinforcement for the section where the tailpiece presses aganst the wall.
