Looks like you may have had some issues with the way the heel of the neck meets the pot. The heel appears to be much deeper than the rim. I'm surprised there would be that much difference. Could the heel be cut down?

That's from another project. I got a Tub-a-Phone pot from a 1928 tenor banjo and put a Gold Tone neck on it. Had to cut off a little of the heel. I put an ebony veneer over the heel after cutting it down. Then I put another piece of ebony veneer over the peg head and inlaid a star in it. Turned out to be a great banjo. I get the same sound a friend gets from his stock 60's Pete Seeger.
