Hi, Rob . Talk to me about caerbon fiber . Will it machine to tolorences ? will it glue Butt joints? does it flex longitudently? whats the weight to strenght ratio/ steve

Hi Elwood, I'm certainly no expert on CF....I've learned what I do know from some friends here in Tulsa that work with it daily in the aerospace industry...in fact it was quite the learning curve for me. Machining CF is tricky ... the dust it creates is dangerous and hard on equipment . I feel I've had the best luck water jetting the part it can be machined safely that way and it's accurate...
I don't think it would glue butt joint . but I'm not sure if you are talking about while in the lay-up process ...the weight to strength ratio is unbelievable...I don't know the numbers and a lot depends on the weave and orientation of the fabric and the Matrix mix...here's a link you might be interested in that explains it better than I can dragonplate.com/sections/technology.asp
