Dave, This one is nice too. Please share the secrets of what is under that head. Is there a tone ring of some kind? Is that ring pushing up from behind to create the tension?

Yes there is a tone ring (stainless steel) which i made myself and the head mounts on a ring (wooden) from underneath and is pulled up under compression. sort of inside out banjo ? i used a drum head as a very large choice of designs, but can be done with a banjo head. The whole design is made from wood with only the screws and inserts and tone ring. If you check out the blonde one you can see the tone ring through the head. The difficult bit was the electrics and getting that elusive Banjo sound. I will post some more picture if your interested
