Wow, that's something you don't see everyday. What does she sound like?

The Randall banjo has a clear, sort of "sweet" sound that I like a lot. The sound seems to impress a lot of banjo players, who are really surprised when I show it to them. The 5th string is sometimes hard to tune on stage, so I don't perform with it much, but when I do I really enjoy it. Thanks.

Does the 5th string being hard to tune have anything to do with the tunneled 5th string? I would love to get rid of my 5th string tuning peg. I didn't know they were making tunneled 5th strings in 1984.

The 5th string can get hung up in either the tunnel or more likely the railroad spike at the 5th fret. The pitch doesn't seem to change when you tighten it, then the next thing you know you have a broken string. I broke one at a festival while the mc was introducing us (but got it changed in time). Great sounding banjo, though.

The ring makes the pot look like a old white-wall tire. I love it. I've often wondered about ceramic as a tone ring.

I've wondered how it would sound with a different head than the clear one, but then you wouldn't be able to see the painting inside the resonator.
