Hi David, I am curious about the work performed by Mr. Knowles. Was the mandolin damaged or simply made to sound better; '75 was not a glorious year for Gibson mandolins. Was the bracing shaved and the top graduated to some degree? The beautiful quilted back is very similar to my '93 Flatiron A5 Artist, which was a screamer but lacked more bass that I desire. Ken this mandolin belonged to a friend in New York that played all his life and purchased this instrument new in 1975. I picked it up on a trade and wanted to make it musically a player and bring it back after being dragged all over the northeast for 30 years. It was dogged out. Dan had rebuilt one like this for himself years ago and it turned out well; so I shipped it off to his shop. It had the bracing tuned, top re-graduated, new radius fingerboard, appropriate position markers, binding repair, tuners, etc.. Too, Dan glass scraped the nasty finish off that was a big reason these mandolins sounded dead. He re-stained it to a vintage look and spirit varnished it. I used it for a few years and sold it to a player in Virginia that has been very pleased. Dan has built for me over the years and it was a fun project. David E.
