Hard to believe but this simple little kitchen utensil, depending on its orientation on the resonator can alter the tone and clarity of a resonator banjo.

You are absolutely right!! Like most banjoists who've heard about this, I was sure it was some kind of lame joke. All I can say is, find one of these, attach it to the inside of your resonator (preferably at a 45-degree angle, as shown here), and listen to the difference.
Because the banjo's sound vibrates in such a specific area inside the resonator, the cake rack's wire pattern actually filters and focuses the sound waves. I know it seems incredible, but it works!
