Lee,
I have one of those little Saga's myself. Wonderful for dragging around or playing while a passenger in a car too. I hve tried to deepen its tone by various methods with mixed results. Finally broke down and got some "regular" banjos too. Darn things just follow me home! At some point check out a A scale banjo. Still a bit smaller than a regular banjo, but much deeper tone. I just love these things!

Yeah, I pretty much take it to work with me every day so that I can grab five minutes here and there to play a little. The tone is limited, though that's not much of a problem for me now as I play by myself and a towel really quietens it down so that my banjo practice doesn't irritate my wife as much as the mandolin practice does. I did put a set of medium strings on it immediately though, and I would like to try a set of hard tension Savarez yellow card classical strings to see what they feel and sound like. I can see that I would enjoy a full-scale instrument at some time in the future, though.

I absolutely love my SS-10. The recordings I did are the SS-10 with a fyberskin head and medium strings.

There is something to be said for a smaller banjo. Little bear is my own creation and I love it. It has an 8" head, 16.5" scale, but the rim is 2 1/2 " deep. It has a really nice tone. A bit of intonation though.
I like the SS 10 as well, but have a very limited budget and can't justify getting another banjo.....LOL

I have the full sized ss10 and for the money I have been so pleased with it. Lovely to play and a good tone. Of course if you want a small banjo you had better take a look at my photos
