The dulcimer is a big hit with kids. I'm an adequate player, nothing more, but it sure is fun. I have to keep it hidden in the case until I'm ready for it. Otherwise it is a huge distraction to the kids. When I'm finished, it usually goes back in the case. I never could get the hang of playing a lap dulcimer in my lap with the fret board facing the ceiling. So, I made mine an upright. It seems to be louder that way.
