Rim layers can be formed easily using the method shown. I cut them with a miter saw, but they can be cut by any other means. I cut 8 segments with 22-1/2 degree angles, leaving the last segment with extra length. Seven segments are glued using slightly stretched painter's tape to hold them tightly together until dry. Cut the last segment for a perfect fit and mark the inner circle to cut excess material before gluing the final segment in place. This saves a LOT of time when sanding the rim to size. Glue the last segment in place and plane level when dry. I use the Wagner Safe-T-Planer in my drill press, but use whatever method you choose. Cut to outer oversize profile before gluing the layer in place. I always use a few grains of salt on the glue surface to keep layers from sliding when clamping pressure is applied. If your layers are level they can be clamped with pressure exerted from a central point above the rim.

Hmm. grains of salt to keep the glue surface. I'll have to try that, because, no matter how hard one works at it they slip and slide out of place....
I use 12 segments per layer. I started that way due to the width of my materials... I like the look of the smaller pieces. You can see some of my ideas in my photo gallery.

Just rcvd 2 sets (6 each) of Bessey Vario clamps, $30 bucks for all 12. They squarely clamp angles from 60 to 180 degrees. I have a test hexagon in now. I was impressed that with exact matching pieces it self aligned as I tightened the strap . Face height is 1.165" so 2 plates to clamp the top to bottom alignment need to be taken into consideration. Octagon next &*) Brian
