i machined the tone ring from a bronze gear and made the flange from 1/8 inch stainless steel...i made the neck from curly maple and walnut ...it is a very powerful banjo, has the sound of one of the banjos on the jim mills album "hide head blues"...lots of volume, has highs up the neck and lows at the end of the neck, it is now my favorite banjo to play.
