I have a similar banjo with a round dowel too - how is yours fixed where heel and rim join? I have only ever seen hardware for square perch-poles / dowel sticks and at the moment it has two screws (!) going into the rim at poor angles and I'm sure it can't be right! I'm not sure how it should go in the first place, but I'd like to make it good and reverse any damage.
