It looks like a painting, but it is really just a snapshot taken with my cheap digital camera. There was a lot of smoke in the air from nearby cannon fire which gives it an impressionistic look.

This is a beautiful photo. I've been to one Gettysburg reenactment and it was an incredible experience. With all the black-and-white photos I've seen from the era, seeing this tells me that this is what it must have really looked like. Thanks!

My wife and I went to Gettysburg in 2006. It was an humbling experience, standing there looking across that field toward Little Round Top. It made me feel weird looking at that field where hundreds and hundreds of southern soldiers were killed.

It was a weird and humbling experience for me too. About 50,000 casualties in just three days... it boggles the mind.
