It is Dr. Ralph Stanley's sig.. He signed it in a bad place if played it will come off of that clear head ,none the less it is a serious banjo and to be taken care of AND PLAYED .Take the time to learn you will love it and it will be a great tribute to your brother. You may want to take the head off and put it up

The signature isn't on the clear membrane, it's inside on the wood head...
