Notice the strap? Yup, that is the one that smells like a smoke bomb. It doesn't smell as bad but its the only strap I have and well I played for the first time wiht out having to stop and slide that banjo back into my lap. It was nice!

Hi banjomom ~ Your comment about the strap smelling like a smoke bomb was so funny! My music teacher (he's awesome in every possible way) has a friend who makes leather straps. When I first got my very expensive Gibson mandolin, I got one of the straps. It was beautiful! But the next day I opened the mandolin case and the brand new mandolin smelled like a dirty ashtray. Took the strap off, aired out the mandolin, washed off the mandolin, tried everything, including Dawn dishwashing liquid on the mandoliin ~ nothing worked! Everytime I played the mandolin there was a strong smell of cigarettes, since the man who made the strap is a smoker and the strap had been hanging in his shop for months. It took about a year for the smell to go away and I washed the strap in the washer with bleach about 5 times, and it still smelled bad. In disgust, I put it away and haven't been able to find it since then. Not exactly a smoke bomb, but it sure smelled like smoke! Enjoyed your pictures a lot. The little canine family member looks so sweet. Lost my darling girl last year. Still not over it. But the banjo helps everything. Don't know how you find the time to practice with the family and all. Thanks for sharing and have a great week. Reenie
