Instead of a scoop - a bevel to make space for the 5th string. It works!

I did this on my Goodtime. Since the wood is unstained/unfinished on the goodtime, it was easy... just a file and a sanding block. Didnt even have to take the neck or strings off. You're right, it works!

Arnie (and Jim)! I am very interested in how you did this. I want to emulate it. Did you just take a file do it? If so, did you have to do anything special to the frets or did the just file off nice and smoothly? And did you only sand it at the end? Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. thank you!

I just filed right through the edge -frets & all at a 45 deg. rough angle, then used fine sandpaper to smooth it out. That's it.
