That's a 2001 Englehardt pictured there.I do have a 1941 Swingmaster that my son is the caretaker of. It's a 5 string. I also have a '48 Kay that's "my" bass. Maybe I have too many, what do ya think? Festival at Holton Ks this weekend if you have nothing to do.

I'd love to go to Holton, KS this weekend Rod. I've also been invited to go camping in the woods this weekend. Unfortunately, I picked up a cold from my wife, and feel like there's a large animal like a moose or a mule sitting on my chest.
I think you know the Sandy Creek Pickers. John Paul Has been playing his Kay bass since he was a teenager. I remember how blond that bass looked in the '70s. After playing in smoky bars for decades, his bass is now about the color of cherry wood. Still a great sounding bass though, and super durable. John says it's as tough as boiled owl.

I've seen some dark blondes as well.........the Kays are indestructable if you don't drop them. Plywood really is the best thing for a bass. Sherry's bass rarely gets out of the case, that's why its' still purty after 14 yrs.

String bass was my instrument in college. I slipped on the ice on campus, and I went down on my back with my bass held above me by my hands and feet. It never touched the ground. I had a Roth bass. The cheapest Roth was fiberglass, so I got the next one up. It had nice red flame maple veneer on the sides and back, with spruce veneer on the top. Under that was 5 ply Baltic birch plywood. Sounded real good though.
