Gariepy banjos usually have a paper id label; the serial # is usually stamped below that. The first number indicates the style (here, a Style 1), followed by a dash, and then the production # (the true production number is usually determined by ignoring the number ŕ" at the beginning. I'm assuming the extra digit was added to make production data more impressive).
