Tom Hanway |
This is based on the original Reno & Smiley recording. It's heavily syncopated and very striking: Reno accented a lot of melody notes on the offbeats, also brushing with his thumb, letting the banjo ring into the downbeat, and his staccato single-string work is legendary stuff, a bold stylistic departure from Earl's approach. This is one of Reno's signature tunes, perhaps his answer to Scruggs' 'Foggy Mountain Breakdown'. (See p. 1.)
