Do you find more of the select heads to be goat ?

I select about 10-20% of the goat hides I get as deserving this grade. I choose them for ideal thickness, evenness, and of course - appearance. These come for the same supplier as my 4-star grade. So - the regular 4-star heads really do perform equally well. The SPECIAL Select are just the "best." in my estimation.
I also buy a few calfskin hides from a specific supplier (not Jeff Stern). These are superior to calf hides I have found from other sources. I grade most of these to be SPECIAL Select too.
