I call it the PBS banjo, because I made it to donate to the local Public Broadcasting System fundraiser auction. I glued up 3 layers of arcs cut from 1x4 common lumber, and those two tabs are lubricated so the glue won't stick. They are later pulled out, and the perch rod goes in there.
